How to Care for Crystal

No matter if you have Antique crystal or you have just bought some new crystal, you will want to ensure that you can take care of them. It is not important where or how you got your crystal; it will still need to be taken care of properly so that it will stay in good condition. You certainly don’t want your crystal getting damaged or broken due to lack of knowledge in caring for your crystal.

One of the first things you will want to do is ensure that it is stored or displayed correctly. To be kept at its best you should keep it in a dust free case or cabinet. It will also help if the crystal is kept out of sunlight or humidity, as both of these conditions can affect the adhesive used to make the figurines, many people display or use there crystal for special occasions.

When you bring out your crystal to use make sure you do so carefully as crystal is both delicate and more than likely valuable. It is best to avoid letting children handle and play with your crystal as they could damage it. When using glasses be sure to give them a rinse after using them, as leaving acidic fluids in a glass for too long can cause the lead to leech out from the crystal

If you use Crystal candleholders you should make sure that you use beeswax or soy wax candles, as using a low quality candle wax is not very good for your crystal. When you are cleaning Crystal glassware it is better to blow or brush the dust off rather than use a duster which may scratch the glass, for crystal figurines a fine paintbrush is ideal for getting between the parts. Never put crystal in a dishwasher, if you need to wash always do it by hand using a mild detergent. You will need to be careful that you do not catch your crystal while using the sink. After washing your Crystal let it dry in the air, by placing the crystal on a towel to dry you will avoid water being trapped between the crystal and the work surface.

If you have any damaged crystal figurines, these can sometimes be repaired as long as it is a clean break. For individual or a small amount of broken crystal that needs repairing you can go to a DIY store and purchase some UV adhesive (check it is suitable for glass) this is a special adhesive that gives a very strong bond yet sets clear so you can’t see it. This adhesive needs UV light to set it if you are only doing a small amount of repairs you can set the adhesive using sunlight on a nice sunny day. If you are making crystal figurines are you have a lot of crystal to repair you may be better using a UV light. You can purchase larger bottles of UV adhesive and UV bulbs and also lamps from E Dropshippers
